This is believed to be the first time a photograph of Texan 44-81723 has appeared in print. Originally built for the US Navy as AT-6D 44-34497, it later served with the Spanish Air Force and is now owned by Walt Newton.
The Hickory warbird event was created to help finance an air museum planned by the Sabre Society of North Carolina, which is preserving three aircraft for static display. From left to right these are: North American FJ-3M Fury 141393; Vought A-7A Corsair II 154345 and Republic F-105B Thunderchief 54-0107.
Charles Osborn's Republic P-47D-25-RA Thunderbolt, 44-90368, registered as N4747P, is currently displayed as Big Ass Bird II, which was flown by Lt Howard Park of the 406th Fighter Group.
