Talkback
Captured in a wintry setting, Douglas DC-3/C-47, N1944A, seen among British Airways Flying School aircraft at Booker Air Park, High Wycombe. The aircraft has been based at Booker since its arrival there via Coventry, in September 1999. Delivered to the USAAF on December 19, 1944, as 43-15211 (c/n 19677), it subsequently saw service with the 8th Air Force, the Royal Norwegian Air Force (as 315211) and the Royal Danish Air Force (as K683/68-683). It was sold to the Valiant Air Command, USA, and reregistered as N3239W, before arriving at Cape Canaveral in May 1983. It was acquired by Doan Helicopters Inc in November 1988, then Seahorse Aviation Inc in May 1990, and was re-registered as N1944A in April 1992. It is currently being made available for film and air display work via Personal Plane Services/Tony Bianchi on behalf of Wings Venture, Connecticut, USA, its latest owners, who purchased the aircraft on May 2, 1997. Its colour scheme represents its service with the 439th Troop Carrier Group, hence the ‘J8’ code on the front fuselage.
Eurofighter DA5 fitted with EJ200 engines illustrates the different rear-end geometry compared with earlier development aircraft powered by RB.199s.
