An unidentified Boeing B-17H ASR with lifeboat. Although designated B-17H, the type was later redesignated SB-17G. About 50 such conversions were made, with provision for a lifeboat for air-sea rescue work. Many had search radar in place of the chin turret, with other armament deleted.
The North American Mitchell II has the serial number FR209, identifying it as the personal transport of Air Vice Marshal Sir Roderick Hill. Otherwise known as the B-25C, 1,619 were built by the North American plant at Inglewood, California.

Two D.H.98 Mosquitoes parked out at Luqa. The nearer aircraft, a Mk B.XVI, is PF558 of No 14 Squadron, RAF. In the background is TA568 of No 4 Squadron, RAF, a Mk F.B.VI.

Avro Lancaster B.I. PA417 was attached to the Far East Standards Telecommunications Unit, Defford, between 1946-49 and is seen at Luqa in 1948. The Avro Lancaster M.R.3s of Nos 37 and 38 Squadrons, RAF, were the last Lancasters to remain in front-line service with the RAF, the last being retired in 1954.
Handley Page Hastings C.1, TG503, was the fifth production aircraft, and is seen here during its flight to Australia and New Zealand in March 1948. Prior to this the aircraft had been used for fuel jettison trials at Boscombe Down, where it was delivered in December 1947. TG503 returned from its route flying/sales flight to Australasia in June, arriving back at Radlett on June 5.
