Scorching the Southend turf was D.H. Vampire F.1 VF303 in company with four of its brethren of No 54 Sqn from Odiham,
Tommy Rose won the Southend Air Speed Cup and £50 for averaging 178 m.p.h. in the Miles Speed Six, G-ADGP, though he was unplaced in the Southend Cup Race.
Winner of the Southend Cup was Ron Paine in the Miles M.14A Hawk Trainer,
Auster 5, G-AJTV competing for the Southend Cup.
