  • Hawker Hart I K2456 of 24 Squadron photographed during a visit to Brooklands from RAF Hendon. Part of a batch of 50 Hart Is delivered to the RAF between February and May 1932, K2456 was relegated to an instructional airframe (775M) after hitting some trees in poor visibility on June 25, 1935. This Hart probably served as a communications aircraft with 24 Sqn.

  • Two views of a Hawker Hart Trainer in the K4000 range, snapped after an incident at Desford in 1936. The Hart appears to be little damaged apart from the collapsed undercarriage. Desford was the home of 7 ERFTS, run by Reid and Sigrist Ltd.

  • Blackburn Roc L3062 sitting on its belly at RAF Hawkinge in 1939. This 803 Sqn aircraft was part of a batch of 136 Rocs delivered between February 1939 and August 1940 and was delivered to the Admiralty in May 1939. Shortly after receiving three Rocs, 803 Sqn embarked on HMS Ark Royal.

  • A Hawker Fury I, almost certainly K2045 of 1 Sqn, pictured at Brooklands in 1933. Part of an RAF order for 48 Fury Is delivered in early 1932, K2045 crashed following a forced landing on December 15, 1936. No 1’s Furies were based at RAF Tangmere.

  • J9787 began life as a Fairey IIIF Mk IV in 1929 and was originally assigned to No 35 Squadron. In July 1934 it was converted to Gordon and it is seen here at Catfoss in 1938. The vertical stripes on the fuselage are shadows formed by the wing struts. In June 1939 J9787 became an instructional airframe, 1534M.

  • Westland Wallace K4018 of 504 Sqn at Desford in 1936. The aircraft has been left with the engine running, with no-one occupying the pilot's seat, and without chocks. A parachute has been left lying in the wet grass. Naughty! K4018 began life as a Wapiti IIA in 1930, as K1373 with 501 Squadron, and became a Wallace in February 1933. It was struck off RAF charge in September 1940.
