First prize goes to David Smith of Blurton, Stoke-on-Trent, for his heart-stopping shot at top of Patrouille de France Alpha Jets in unorthodox formation at the Mildenhall Air Fete at the end of May 1989. Not the time for a pilot to feel a sneeze coming on ... David wins a Canon EOS 600 SLR camera, worth £379.

Second place also goes to David Smith, for his depiction of an RAF SAR Westland Wessex, taken at Fairford's International Air Tattoo on the weekend of July 22-23, 1989. David wins a cheque for £50 to supplement his first-prize camera.
