The Albatros MZ.2 was a Farman derivative photographed at the German manoeuvres in 1912. One of these aeroplanes was fitted with a Carbonit tube between the undercarriage struts, the bomb being inserted by the rear seat observer.

An LVG BI on the Eastern Front in the winter of 1914-15 shows one way of getting round the awkward fitting of the long Carbonit tube by a diagonal arrangement. This could also be used for dropping the smaller spherical APK bombs which were used briefly in the early weeks of the war.

The Carbonit cage tube was still being used well into the war. Note the tube was fitted to this Gotha GI. A streamlined container can be seen behind the tube for other Carbonit bombs. This photograph dates from mid-1915.
