  • The Albatros MZ.2 was a Farman derivative photographed at the German manoeuvres in 1912. One of these aeroplanes was fitted with a Carbonit tube between the undercarriage struts, the bomb being inserted by the rear seat observer.

  • An LVG BI on the Eastern Front in the winter of 1914-15 shows one way of getting round the awkward fitting of the long Carbonit tube by a diagonal arrangement. This could also be used for dropping the smaller spherical APK bombs which were used briefly in the early weeks of the war.

  • The Carbonit cage tube was still being used well into the war. Note the tube was fitted to this Gotha GI. A streamlined container can be seen behind the tube for other Carbonit bombs. This photograph dates from mid-1915.
