Recently restored by the Champlin Fighter Museum in Mesa, Arizona, a Chinese MiG-15 loaned bv Phoenix collector J. Curtis Earl is seen intake-to-intake with an old adversary in the shape of Champlin's F-86 Sabre.

Seen at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, Florida on March 10, 1990 was recently-arrived Boeing B-17F N8WJ, ex CP-753 with Frigorifico Reyes in Bolivia. Now registered to World Jet Inc, this is the B-17 that Croydon-based collector Roy Jacobsen had hoped to acquire last year and bring to the UK. Jacobsen reports that he “baulked at the Bolivians' asking price'’ of $200,000 for the then-engineless and incomplete aircraft.

Engineer Colin Swann of the Duxford-based Aircraft Restoration Co grins from the ... er, cockpit of a car made from the nose section of a Bristol Blenheim Mk I. Built for electric power and used on the road in 1947-54, the car was presented to the company by its creator, former Bristol employee Ralph Nelson, after he had heard about their current Blenheim restoration project.

Acquired on loan from the MoD in 1981 by the Cotswold Aircraft Restoration Group, early Meteor T.7 VW453 is coming together after 8yr of restoration. Later this year it will be sprayed in standard RAF training colours, the overall silver being replaced by light grey for durability, and will take the place of Javelin XH903 on the gate at RAF Innsworth.

N58566 is the largest member of a foursome of American trainers, the PT Flight, seen in formation. In the foreground is Fairchild PT-23 N49272 - a type which, in inline-engined form and with canopy, will be better known to former Commonwealth Air Training Plan students as the PT-26 Cornell. Between the PT-23 and the Valiant are two Ryan PT-22s, N1344 and N56421, which complete the team.

Well established as a popular and unusual performer at UK airshows is Bob Mitchell's all-silver Vultee Valiant, N58566. Sutton Coldfield-based Mitchell, seen here at the controls of the trainer in the Coventry area last October, imported the Valiant from the USA in time for it to make its British display debut last spring.

Now complete, and looking magnificent, is the Queensland, Australia-based Hinkler House Memorial Museum ’s replica Hinkler Ibis. Fitted with one mainly original and one replica Salmson engine, the Ibis is seen here at Bundaberg in January 1990.

Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire XIX PM631 undergoing engine runs at Cranfield in early April 1990. Following major overhaul at the College of Aeronautics and a respray in South-east Asia colours by Rogers Aviation, it was returned to the Flight on April 10.
