Bell had the FLRAA configuration right from the outset with its V-280 Valor. The JMRTD aircraft proved the concept perfectly, to such an extent that after just 15 hours of flight, Bell invited army test pilots to come and fly the aircraft. The V-280 conducted more than 215 hours of test flights

Since the V-280 JMRTD, Bell has modified the engine housing intakes, added IR suppressors and revised the door configuration. Coffman said further changes are anticipated during the final preliminary design review phase
