The two-seat F-5F was essentially similar to the F-5E, but with a fuselage lengthened by 3ft 6 1/2in (1-08m) to accommodate the rear cockpit. The F-5F was fully combat-capable.

Taiwan
Not only did AIDC produce a number of aircraft, it was also responsible for the licence-production of the Northrop F-5 Tiger II. Today, only the 7th TFW at Taidong and the 4th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron at Hualein still operate the type. The 46th TFG from the 7th TFW serves as the aggressor squadron and a number of its aircraft have received appropriate tactical schemes, as depicted here on F-5F 5404.
South Korea

The Islamic Republic Iranian Air Force is currently operating 55 F-5E and F-5F Tiger IIs divided between seven-and-a-half squadrons operating from Mehrabad, Tabriz, Hamadan, Dezful and Isfahan. Iran originally procured 140 F-5Es and 28 F-5Fs, one of the latter being seen taking-off.

Production of the Northrop F-5 has ended, with a total of 2,610 built over a period of 24 years. The completion of the programme, which was managed by the US Air Force Aeronautical Systems Division and was part of the US Government's Foreign Military Sales effort, was marked by a fly-by ceremony by the last two Northrop-built F-5s at the Wright Patterson AFB on 16 January 1987.
