Стратосферные бомбардировщики - Wellington Mk V и Mk VI. Еще в 1938 году командование ВВС стало изучать возможность использования Wellington в качестве стратосферного бомбардировщика - к тому времени технологии уже позволяли изготовить герметизированную кабину, что позволило бы поднять практический потолок самолета до 12190 м.
