The TF-X program has been developed for about a decade by the Turkish government, which wants to establish greater independence from foreign suppliers. The preferred date for Kaan’s first flight is October 29б 2023, the 100th anniversary of the Turkish Republic will be celebrated
Azerbaijan joined Turkey's Kaan fighter programme in July 2023, a strong signal that Baku will procure the aircraft, but not until the 2030s
The first MMU prototype was ceremonially rolled out on March 18, 2023, after conducting its first taxi trial on March 17, at speeds of up to 15kts. А head-on view shows distinct similarities with the basic configuration used by the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor -

Ten block-one production aircraft will be delivered to the Turkish Air Force between 2030 and 2033 under Phase Two of the programme. The block 20 MMU will be delivered from 2034 under Phase Three and will be a true fifth-generation fighter, with LO-appropriate materials, coatings, sensors and systems. The second prototype (P1) is due to fly in 2025 and will be more representative of the planned production aircraft. The third aircraft is expected to fly in 2026.
