The first full-scale Aquila, the solar-powered UAV that Facebook plans to use to provide internet access to remote regions, has undertaken its first flight from an undisclosed location in the US.

Aquila, which has a 137ft wingspan, has been built by the Somerset-based Ascenta consultancy. The aircraft is due to be tested in the US later this year.
