Eritrea operates an unknown number of Su-27SKs and Su-27UBKs, although six Su-27s were reported to have been seen in mid-2003. The splinter camouflage of this Su-27UBK makes an interesting comparison with that adopted by the Eritrean Air Force for its MiG-29s, one of which is seen parked alongside.
Vietnam, a long-time ally of the Soviets, was one of the first countries to receive the Flanker. Its first batch of six aircraft - including this Su-27SK, 6001 - was delivered in 1995.
Indonesia currently operates two Su-27SK Flanker-Bs, one of which (TS-2701) is seen taxiing with its huge airbrake deployed to save wear on the wheel brakes, and a pair of two-seat Su-30MK trainer variants.
India's dedicated fighter variant Su-30Ks will be replaced by the upgraded and multirole Su-30MKIs.
This view of a 20 Squadron IAF Su-30MKI shows the deflected engine nozzle which gives the type thrust vector control. This is just one of the features of the Su-30MKI that make it the most capable production variant to date.
Although this Su-27SK is armed with four rocket pods, ground-attack is a secondary role for the PLAAF's single-seat Flanker variant.
