Talkback
Beauvechain Air Base hosted this year's Belgian Defence Days on September 2-3, 2006 and to mark the occasion, the 1 Wing Historical Centre unveiled its two most recent restoration projects: Lockheed F-104G Starfighter FX-47, seen here, and Hawker Hunter F.6 IF-65. The Starfighter is resplendent in the silver and white scheme in which it entered active service with the Belgian Air Force in May 1964 - it was withdrawn from use in January 1982.
This really is precision landing, Boeing 747SP, ZS-SPC (c/n 2134/288) is seen touching down at Rand Airport, Johannesburg, on September 30, 2006. This was the aircraft's last flight as it is destined to spend the rest of its days with the South African Museum Society, based at the airport. As can be seen, there was little room for error during the landing as the runway is only 50ft wide and the main undercarriage of the 747 spans over 41ft.
