Best of both worlds? North American Mustang Mk I AM148 of 26 Sqn RAF, seen here in the summer of 1942, was armed with a mixture of 0-50in and 0-303in machine-guns - a pair of the former in the lower engine cowling, plus one of the former and two of the latter in each wing.
Subscriber John Dell’s sketched impression of Andre Delprat’s "flying house” of 1904-06. Based on one of the photographs which illustrated the article, it shows how the horizontal and vertical propulsion paddles would have been mounted in the two upper floors of the “building” - which, although erected at Alexandra Palace, was unsurprisingly never completed, let alone flown.
