R.Riding - H.P. Sayers monoplane /British pre-war ultralights/ (48)
The Sayers-Handley Page monoplane, No. 26: This machine is fitted with a Blackburne engine. The very small monoplane wing is provided with front slot, slotted ailerons, and variable camber gear. The wing loading is about 8 lbs./sq. ft.
Work on the H.P. Sayers No 26 was still not completed in September 1923, when this picture was taken at Cricklewood, and it was not finished until after the competitions. Note the small, slotted wing. Later the aircraft went to RAF Martlesham Heath as J7265 but was never flown there. The colour scheme for this aircraft and for No 25 is not known; the first H.P. Sayers, No 23, was clear doped.
Looking as though it is pilotless the H.P. Sayers No 25 is in fact being flown by Gordon Olley at Lympne on October 11, 1923.
One of the three Handley Page-Sayers Motor Gliders built for the 1923 Lympne Trials. No 23 is seen here just prior to a bungee launch at Cricklewood in September 1923.

Two views of the H.P. Sayers No 25, minus engine, at Cricklewood in 1923. The poor view from the cockpit portholes is apparent.
Close-up of the H.P. Sayers No 23’s pylon-mounted engine. The aircraft would not fly with either the ABC or Douglas engine and the design was abandoned.

No 25 is the subject of the 3-view drawing.
