  • The A350 XWB's new engine - the Rolls-Royce Trent XWB - made its maiden flight aboard an A380 flying-test-bed on February 18, 2012. Specially fitted with test sensors to measure hundreds of parameters, the Trent XWB development engine was mounted on the A380's inner left engine pylon, replacing one of the aircraft's Trent 900 engines. The crew on board this first flight, from left to right: flight test engineer Tuan Do, flight test engineer Emanuele Costanzo, experimental test pilot Terry Lutz, experimental test pilot Frank Chapman and experimental test flight engineer Pascal Vemeau.

  • Airbus delivered the front fuselage for the first flyable A350 XWB (msn 1) to the final assembly line in Toulouse, France in mid-July 2012. The 21m (68ft 10in) long section is already equipped with its systems and was flown in from the Airbus site at Saint-Nazaire, France, onboard an Airbus Beluga transport aircraft.
