The Bleriot type XI had a long life in French service. These are the late XI-2 two-seat (80 h.p.) machines which equipped four units in August 1914. Single-seat versions with 50 h.p. Gnome engines equipped three “cavalerie" units. The two-seat machines were used in Morocco.

The Bleriot XI military version used by the French in North Africa was present in every theatre of war where aeroplanes were used before August 1914. It was also used on the Western Front until 1915 and later in Italy.
