Boeing 777 prototype N7771 made its maiden flight on June 12, 1994, crewed by chief pilot John Cashman and co-pilot Ken Higgins. The aircraft took off from Everett’s Paine Field, north of Seattle, Washington, for the 3 hr 48 min flight and then underwent a four-day inspection prior to a series of five further flights.

Boeing’s 777-200LR is given a traditional water cannon salute after touching down at London/Heathrow at 1330hrs on November 10, 2005 to establish a new world record for distance travelled non-stop by a commercial aircraft. The aircraft had taken off from Hong Kong at 2230hrs local time the previous evening but headed eastbound to go the long way round to the UK, completing its 22 hour 42 minute flight after covering a distance of 11,664 nautical miles (21,601km). The aircraft routed over the northern Pacific Ocean and the USA before crossing the mid-north Atlantic Ocean en route to London.

Thai Airways International Boeing 777-2D7ER HS-TJR (c/n 34586) lands after a test flight on October 25, 2006. The aircraft is the first 777-200ER for the airline and left Paine Field, Everett, Washington, on November 1 on its ferry flight to Suvarnabhumi Airport, Thailand. Four aircraft are on order and the remaining three will also be delivered before the year-end.

Iraq has taken delivery of Boeing 777-29MLR YI-AQZ (c/n 40993, ex N736FE), the first step by the country to re-establishing its own long-haul services. The airliner departed Boeing Field/King County International Airport, Washington, on December 14, 2012, the first aircraft delivered by the manufacturer to Iraq in more than 30 years. It arrived at Baghdad International Airport the following day. The airliner was originally constructed for Air Austral as F-ORLB but not handed over. Iraq has 30 Boeing 737 Next-Generation and ten 787-8 Dreamliners on order, and expects to take delivery of its first 737 by the middle of this year.
