Rene Leduc (not the Rene Leduc who designed ramjets) built his RL.16 specifically for high altitude and long range capability. He flew F-WCDT, powered by a German 50 hp Zundapp 4-cyl inverted in-line engine, to 7788 m (25,551 ft). He later produced the RL.21 F-WJDT, a low wing monoplane with 145 hp SNECMA Regnier 4LO 4-cyl inverted in-line engine, which broke 4 world records in 1960-1966 flown by Raymond Davy. Wing span of the parasol wing RL.16 was 12.8 m (42 ft). Normal weight 330 kg (727 lb).
