Model 747-8: не желая уступать лидерство на рынке сверхвместительных авиалайненров самолету Airbus A380, компания "Boeing" 14 ноября 2005 года представила модель 747-8. Boeing recently painted 747-8U7F N770BA (c/n 37564) to mark the Seattle Seahawks America football team making the Super Bowl, the National Football League championship game played annually between the winners of the National and the American Football Conferences. It has the team’s logo and large ‘12’ on the tail, with the name of the club on the port fuselage and ‘Spirit of 12s’, ‘Go Hawks!’ and ‘#Louder’ on the starboard forward. The ‘12’ signifies the crowd at the games, often known as the ‘12th man’, watching 11-player teams on the pitch. Boeing is a sponsor of the Seattle Seahawks. The freighter was originally destined for Atlas Air before the carrier reduced its order for 12 747-8Fs by three aircraft in September 2011. It is currently being used by the manufacturer as a trials platform.
AirBridgeCargo Boeing 747-8HVF VQ-BLR, pictured at Helsinki in March 2015, is one of five -8Fs used by the airline.
Manufacturers, such as Boeing, continue to develop new-build cargo jets for customers around the world. This example, VQ-BLR (c/n 37668), was the second 747-8F to be delivered to AirBridgeCargo Airlines.

A further two Boeing 747-8 Freighters have been recently handed over, following the first deliveries to Cargolux in October 2011. Atlas Air Worldwide's first example (747-87UF(SCD) G-GSSD, c/n 37562, RC571) following on November 4. It will be operated by Global Supply Systems on behalf of British Airways World Cargo and based at Stansted.
The second Boeing 747-8R7(F) for Cargolux Airlines International (LX-VCD named City of Luxembourg, c/n 35809) was handed over on October 13, 2011 and left Paine Field Airport, Washington, the same day, arriving at Luxembourg-Findel Airport the next. It is seen at Maastricht Aachen Airport in the Netherlands on October 14 during a test flight.

On February 13, 2011 Boeing rolled out the 747-8 Intercontinental at Everett, Washington, in front of 10,000 employees and invited guests. Boeing 747-8JK N6067E (RC001, c/n 38636) is painted in the manufacturer's new 'sunrise' corporate colours. The 747-8I is due to fly in March or April, and following a 600-hour flight test campaign certification will occur in the third of fourth quarter of 2011. Currently the company holds orders for 33 747-8Is from Lufthansa (20, plus options for another 20), Korean Air (five) and seven VIP customers (eight). The first example will be delivered as a VIP configured aircraft to LH Group Fleet Management in the fourth quarter of 2011. Lufthansa will take delivery of its first 747-8I in 2012.

Looking smart in its red, white, orange and grey 'Sunrise' livery, N6067E was painted in these colours as they are said to represent prosperity and good luck in Eastern cultures. Apparently Boeing is hopeful this will help it market the aircraft in India and the Far East.

Only 51 examples of the Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental have been sold. This one, N6067U, later N828BA (c/n 37826), is pictured back in 2013 test flying a performance improvement package. This aircraft is now stored.
Arriving at King County International Airport/Boeing Field, Washington, on August 1, 2014 was Boeing 747-89L B-2485 (c/n 41191), the first destined for Air China. The airliner was flown from nearby Snohomish County Airport/Paine Field, the day after its first flight. Air China will become only the second carrier to operate the Intercontinental version of the 747-8 after Lufthansa, all other deliveries to date being for Freighters. Air China ordered five examples in September 2012.
Boeing 747-89L Intercontinental B-2485 (c/n 41191) was handed over to Air China on September 29, 2014 and departed Snohomish County Airport/Paine Field, Washington, the following day, arriving at Beijing Capital International Airport on October 1. The carrier has seven 747-8Is on order.
Korean Air Lines has received its initial Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental HL7630 (c/n 40905). The carrier, which has ordered ten 747-8Is, is the first airline to operate both the passenger and freighter versions of the ‘Dash Eight’ 747 (it currently has seven -8Fs). Korean's -81s are configured with 368 seats (six first class, 48 business and 314 economy) and the airline will use the type on routes from Seoul to San Francisco and Frankfurt.

Boeing 747-830I D-ABYI (c/n 37833) was the 50th of the Dash 8 variants to be delivered. It was handed over to Lufthansa on May 29, 2013.
Boeing delivered the 1,500th Boeing 747 on June 28, 2014, the first widebody commercial airliner to reach the production milestone. THe aircraft (7470830 D-ABYP, c/n 37839) is the 14th 747-8 Intercontinental handed over to Lufthansa since the first in April 2012 and it has a further five on order. The Boeing 777 is expected to be the next widebody to reach 1,500 deliveries, in around three years' time, based on currently monthly production rates for the airliner.

The 747-8 is Lufthansa's new flagship
Lufthansa unveiled a new livery on February 7, 2018 at Frankfurt on Boeing 747-8I D-ABYA (c/n 37827) and Airbus A321-231 D-AISP (msn 3864). The revised design retains the crane logo on the tailfin but features darker blue paint extending from the tail down over the rear fuselage. The colour yellow, so familiar in the Lufthansa brand over the years, is not a feature of the new livery. Lufthansa says the colour will continue to feature on the airline's airport counters, staff uniforms and boarding passes.
Lufthansa is one of only three airlines to operate the 747-8 Intercontinental, the passenger version of the 747-8, the others being Air China and Korean Air Lines. Here D-ABYA (c/n 37827) is pictured in Hamburg.
