The Bell V-280 Valor tiltrotor is currently being flight-tested under JMR TD programme.
General Electric engines power the Bell V-280 demonstrator but Rolls-Royce is now a supplier on the programme.
V-280 N280BH (c/n 60105) in the hover at Amarillo on December 18, 2017. Bell has designed the V-280 with its T64 engines fixed in the horizontal plane, and a rotating (tilting) nacelle housing a fancy new drive system for the three-blade proprotors. On the V-22 Osprey, the engines are housed in the nacelles and rotate together.
Bell’s first Valor prototype (registration N280BH, c/n 60105) is seen hovering during flight testing. This angle provides a good look at the tiltrotor’s design, which follows a compound fuselage complete with a V-shaped tail instead of a tail rotor. The platform features side doors instead of a ramp and a tricycle landing gear, which is retractable. If selected, the V-280 would be the US Army’s first tiltrotor aircraft
Data transmission and sling load tests were conducted with the V-280 Valor
Work on the V-280 originally began under the Joint Multi-Role Technology Demonstrator programme
If selected, delivery of the first unit to the US Army would take place in 2030
In this shot, N280BH is shown as the pylons rotate to the down stop position during the May 11, 2018 flight.

The V-280 prototype transitions between flight modes during a test flight. When configured for forward flight, the tiltrotor will be able to fly faster and manoeuvre like a fixed-wing aircraft. When configured for hovering, the Valor will have the same flight characteristics as a helicopter
N2808H flew in cruise mode for the first time on May 11, 2018.
The V-280 passes at high speed. This third-generation tiltrotor employs a remarkably different design to other aircraft in its class, such as the Osprey. It uses a V-tail, smaller wings and a sleeker, compound fuselage. It is also smaller than the V-22.
The V-280 Valor reached 200 flight hours in December 2020, three years after its first flight

Bell Helicopter's V-280 Valor prototype, N280BH, successfully achieved controlled conversion from 95° to 75° pylon and back, allowing for full hover and low-speed-agility manoeuvring. The aircraft will continue ground run testing at the company's Amarillo Assembly Center, where it will undergo a series of functional tests running all aircraft systems and flight controls in preparation for first flight.

For the first time, Bell exhibited a full-scale mock-up of its V-280 Valor tiltrotor offering for the US Army s Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) programme at FIA. Although it was kept within the confines of the company’s chalet and was largely restricted from public view, Bell boasts that tie platform (while large on paper) will boast the same footprint as the UH-60 Black Hawk and will be able to utilise the same infrastructure

Prime contractor Bell Helicopter is leading a team of 12 aerospace companies to develop its V-280 Valor tilt-rotor aircraft to meet the US Army's needs for the Joint Multi-Role Technology Demonstration programme to help define the Future Vertical Lift programme.

This concept image provides an early glimpse of what multi-domain joint operations with both the 360 Invictus and V-280 Valor would look like in an operational combat environment. The former would be used to penetrate and weaken enemy air defences, while the latter would forward deploy ground forces and equipment into the battlespace
