Boeing FARA /Concept Insight/
In common with Bell’s 360 Invictus, Boeing's FARA concept employs a tandem-seat cockpit configuration, a single main rotor solution and shares many features seen on the RAH-66 Comanche and Lockheed AH-56 Cheyenne prototypes.
Boeing's FARA concept in action, firing an air-to-ground missile, most likely an AGM-114 Hellfire or AGM-179 Joint Air-to-Ground Missile (JAGM).
As AIR International went to press, the US Army announced that it had downselected Bell's 360 Invictus and Sikorsky's Raider X concepts to progress to the second phase of the FARA programme. This means that Boeing's concept - along with AVX Aircraft's Compound Coaxial Helicopter (CCH) and Karem Aircraft's AR40 - will no longer be in the running to provide the service's OH-58D Kiowa Warrior replacement. The two selected prototypes will go on to be further matured, developed and have airworthy prototypes produced and tested ahead of a fly-off competition, scheduled to begin in 2024.
