Warsitz in the cockpit during taxi-ing trials three days earlier. Note the blanking plates over the mainwheel wells.
The He 178 V2, which never flew.
The He 178 V1 taking off on its first flight.
This general arrangement drawing depicts the He 178 V1 in the form in which it was originally flown (ie, with mainwheels fixed in the extended positions and wells blanked off). The broken lines in the planview indicate the wing planform of the He 178 V2 in which it had been intended to install the HeS 6 offering a static thrust of 1,300 lb (590 kg) at 13,300 rpm.
