T.McKelvey Cleaver - The advanced Wild Weasel
On the flight line at George AFB is a GD/Grumman EF-111A, used to support Wild Weasel missions by actively jamming the enemy warning radars.
A pair of F-4Gs from the 562nd Tactical Fighter Training Squadron, the 37th TFW unit responsible for all Wild Weasel training for the USAF. These aircraft were being flown by Major Bill Downs and Capt Bill Rake for the mission.
Another aspect of the F-4G.
The ordnance chief signals "all weapons ready" as Maj Bill Downs and Capt Ken Burton (the EWO) prepare to taxi for take-off. An AGM-45 Shrike is on the starboard pylon and an AGM-65 Maverick under the other wing; both outboard pylons carry MERs and an F-15-style drop tank is on the centerline.
Bearing the appropriate code letters WW, the F-4G Wild Weasel depicted in the photograph is operated front George AFB, near Victorville, California, by the three squadrons of the 37th Tactical Fighter Wing.
