Ader Eole (France) Bat-winged monoplane built by Clement Ader. Became the first piloted and powered (one 15 kW; 20 hp Ader-designed steam engine driving a primitive four-blade tractor propeller) aeroplane to fly from level ground, in an uncontrolled hop at the Chateau Pereire, Armainvilliers, France, on 9 October 1890. The aircraft covered approximately 50 m (165 ft).
