Grunau Baby IIB G-ALSO/BGA578 sits in the hot July sun at Dunstable in 1949. Designed in 1931 by Wolf Hirth and Edmund Schneider and built at Grunau near Berlin, the prototype Baby first flew in 1932. The parent company built nearly 800 Babies but thousands more were licence-built throughout Europe. This example was one of two built by Hawkridge Aircraft. Registered in December 1974, 'SO had a blue fuselage and silver wings. The lettering was blue on the wings and silver on the fuselage.
