  • The first XB-32, 41-141, runs up engines on Consolidated's San Diego ramp soon after rolling off the production line. On May 10, 1942 this aircraft crashed on take-off, killing Consolidated's senior pilot and injuring six crewmen.

  • This view of 42-108476 shows well the 135ft Davis wing. The two Martin A-18 upper gun turrets are clearly visible, as are the non-rotating plexiglass streamlining blisters to the rear of each turret, the round opening just aft of the cockpit is the navigator's optically-flat observation port.

  • The decision to adopt the tall tail for the Dominator was not made in time to influence the initial configuration of the first production B-32, 42-108471, seen here with the early B-29-style tail unit. Note the definitive tail and dorsal turrets, and the B-32's characteristic “squatting” stance.

  • The loss of the first prototype meant that testing had to be completed with the second XB-32, 41-142, seen here on an early test flight.
