    John Yoxall’s dramatic photograph showing Peto N255 being catapulted from the submarine M.2 in August 1931. N255, the rebuilt prototype, was fitted with the more powerful Armstrong Siddeley Mongoose Mk I engine, which gave 138 h.p. at 1 620 r.p.m.
    Two-seat biplane naval reconnaissance seaplane for operations from submarines with a 135hp (100kW) Bristol Lucifer IV three-cylinder radial or 135hp (100kW) Armstrong Siddeley Mongoose IIIC five-cylinder radial - two built, N181 and N182.

    With wings folded the Peto had a span of 8ft. Here the unarmed, wireless-equipped Peto is seen being pushed back into the hangar of the submarine M.2 in August 1931.

    Having carried out its mission, Peto N255 is hoisted back onto the catapult rails. The pilot and observer can be seen standing in their respective cockpits. It was said that if the observer wished to take along an extra item of equipment the pilot had to wear gym shoes instead of flying boots!

    The first prototype Peto, N181, temporarily fitted with wheels from the Pike for initial tests as a landplane. It is fitted with a three-cylinder Bristol Lucifer Mk III radial engine.

    Peto N181 after a mishap, suspended from a jib at (probably) Gib. The port lower wing has failed outboard of the interplane struts, and the floats have come adrift.
