Close-ups of the cockpit were taken on a rig using a genuine Hurricane fuselage. Hydraulic jacks could alter the position of the cockpit relative to the camera and the whole set-up gave considerably more authenticity than the customary wooden mock-ups, most of which were totally unconvincing. Background was later put in by using a matte process instead of the more usual back-projection.

Actors and Portuguese pilots pose for the publicity camera, with Wg Cdr Al Deere DSO, DFC on the wing. Well-known is Jack Hawkins on the right with the then-ubiquitous Michael Denison and Dulcie Gray in the centre. Missing is the main character, John Gregson
