Bf 109E-1 W/n 6296F on display in Croydon at 6d per visit, proceeds going to the Croydon Spitfire Fund. This aircraft belly-landed at Margate on Monday 24 July after being shot down by Sqn Ldr H.C.Sawyer of No.65 Squadron. The pilot, Lt. Werner Bartels was Geschwader Adjutant to III/JG 26, then commanded, by Major Adolf Galland and based at Caffiers.

Item 99, Bf 109E-4 W/n 1480 was flown by Oblt.Franz von Werra, the 'One who Got Away', then Adjutant of 11/JG 3 at Samer. He was shot down by Flt Lt P.C.Hughes of No.234 Squadron at Harden, on Thursay, 5 September and was taken prisoner.

Item 45 Bf 109E-1 W/n 3271 On Friday 30 August after being shot down by Sqn Ldr T.P.Gleave of No.253 Squadron. Censorship was presumably to prevent the enemy knowing that this particular aircraft was captured.

Item 11 ends its sorties from Beaumont-le-Roger in a wheatfield near Shoreham. Note that the 'R' quoted as its marking is, in fact, the unit badge of JG.2

A Bf 109E of 7/JG 27 is salvaged from Windsor Great Park. On 30 September 1940, Oblt. Karl Fischer intercepted two Ansons but during his attack stalled and crashed.

Bf 109E-4, now known to have been W/n 5587, made a belly-landing at the Farm of Mrs.J.Weir at East Langdon, having been shot down by Pilot Officer B.J.Wicks of No.56 Squadron on Saturday, 24 August. There are other press photographs of this aircraft. Oddly, one of them shows the fin as having one less victory mark than on other prints.
