The SNCAN Nord 1500 Noreclair was designed with an arrester hook and folding wings for operation from an aircraft carrier or from land bases. It was powered by two 1600 hp 14- cyl 2-row Gnome-Rhone 14R-25 radial engines and its mid wing had a gulled centre section reminiscent of the Mitchell. It was multi-purpose: reconnaissance, torpedo bombing, dive bombing and anti-submarine patrol with depth charges, the multiplicity of tasks requiring a twin engine aircraft with a wingspan of 64 ft 7 in, although the crew was only two. An idea of its large size can be obtained from the Norecrin F-BBKO and the Noralpha F-BBCM beneath its starboard wing in the photograph. A tailwheel aircraft, its concept was outdated and the prototype had only limited testing before being abandoned.

The Nord 1500 Noreclair prototype first flew on 29.8.47 in time to appear in this "Aeroplane Spotter" photograph but only limited testing was completed before it was abandoned. Maximum speed was 335 mph and it was only slightly heavier than a 1945 Sea Mosquito, but by the time it could have entered service it would have been well outdated and the prototype remained the only example.
