Регистрационный номер: YR-ADL [2] YR-ADL was a 2-seat parasol open cockpit tourer designed and owned by Radu Onciul. Built by ICAR, Bucharest in 1936, it was known by them as the RO-2 (c/n 201) but other sources call it the RO-1. It first flew at the military aviation school at Tecuci with a 35 hp Anzani but an 80 hp engine was fitted later. An International CofA was obtained on 30.9.36 and it was regd on 1.10.36. Flown often in 1938 but may have crashed in 1939, in any case the photo with a German soldier must be post-1940.
In Archive p.94/86 we identified an earlier photo of YR-ADL as the Radu Onciul design RO-2. This was quite correct and we did not doubt the identification but in compressing the text to fit the space we should have said that "other sources incorrectly call it the RO-1". The other sources referred to relied on a Romanian text which did not adequately distinguish between the two designs. Jack Meaden's photo on p.94/86 shows the 1936 RO-2 with 80 hp Siemens 5-cyl radial (span 10.96 m/36 ft; weights, empty 463 kg/1519 lb, loaded 740 kg/2428 lb; max speed 155 kmh/ 96 mph) but he has now uncovered a photo of the RO-1 which was designed in 1930 and, although very similar in layout, was a much smaller aircraft. -

Регистрационный номер: YR-ADL [2] Mr Willis has also sent us two unidentified Rumanian registered types in the hope that someone can identify them. YR-ADL is a Morane-like parasol two-seater. Any suggestions?
