The prototype Dornier E with 360 hp Rolls-Royce Eagle engine on calm water. The resemblance to the much larger twin-engine Wal is evident and the tail unit shows its relationship to the Komet, Merkur and Delphin.

This view of the Eagle-powered E, again probably the prototype during development use, shows the small aerofoils being tried out on the hull sides. Their intended purpose was to smooth out the effects of spray over the pilot's and gunner's cockpits.

The prototype E taxying away shows the tapered engine nacelle atop the typically Dornier parallel-chord square-tipped metal wing. The broad wash produced by the sponsons indicates their strong stabilising effect.

The Dornier E with Rolls-Royce Eagle engine, probably the prototype aircraft, slung from a crane, provides a good view of the slim hull with two steps. The wing aerofoil section is clearly displayed by the square wingtip.

Later versions of the E were fitted with the 450 hp Jupiter 9-cyl radial engine as seen in this take-off view which shows the major features including the central strut pylon, underwing strut pairs and the sponsons.

Регистрационный номер: D-932 A late E with its Jupiter engine running has a wide all-round protective windscreen. It also has the revised tail unit and link-tab trimmers. Its registration D-932 (written without a hyphen) as an E/72 was followed in the register by D-933 but no other civil examples are known.

A Jupiter engined E cruising along at low level shows two features no doubt standardised for production, a new taller fin and rudder without a step and link-tab aileron trimmers passing through the fin as on the Komet III.
