The XP-47K was the first to utilise a bubble canopy. The K above was a modified 47D.
The XP-47J was claimed to be the fastest fighter of World War II, reaching a speed of 505 m.p.h. in 1944.
Despite its high performance the 47J only reached the prototype stage.
