A low pass (approximately 50ft) alongside bulk carrier Liliana Dimitrova was made for the benefit of the photographer. There was no suggestion that the ship was doing anything untoward, but the photograph demonstrates how the Beech 200T would carry out visual inspection of ships suspected of unlawful activities such as discharging harmful substances.
This photograph of Armada 871 over the mouth of the River Plate shows the under-fuselage strakes just aft of the radar fairing to 'smooth' the turbulent wake from it. Note also the black hemispherical radar warning receiver antennae on the front and rear of the tip tanks, and the rectangular sensors below the tanks for the AES 210 intelligence-gathering system.
Armada 871 at BAEN 2 having just returned from a maritime patrol mission in which it sighted a trawler fishing illegally. The aircraft is seen about to be refuelled and with the engine cowlings open to enable to oil levels to be checked.
Operators at the tactical station have two CRT displays on their consoles which present radar and electronic support measures data.
