A youthful George Townson sits upon the Herrick HV-2A's rotor-wing. The 22yr-old was hired to fly the HV-2A at $25 per flying hour, $12.50 per taxying hour, and $1.50 per consulting hour!

X13515 the Herrick HV-2A of 1937. During take-offs and landings the rotor-wing was permitted to autorotate. For forward flight the rotor was locked and acted as a normal wing.

X11384 was Gerard Herrick's first convertiplane; the HV-1. It first flew on November 6, 1931, but was destroyed when the pilot tried to start the rotor in flight. A rotor blade struck the fin.
