    Lockheed Model 12A G-AEOI at Doncaster in 1938. Registered in March 1937 to the Rt Hon Viscount Furness, 'OI was impressed by the Ministry of Aircraft Production as X9316 in December 1939 and joined the newly formed Photographic Development Unit. Later it became the personal aircraft of Gerard d'Erlanger, CO of the Air Transport Auxiliary, and then passed to No 24 Squadron. After the war the aircraft returned to civilian use with the Shell Co of Venezuela, becoming YV-P-AEJ and later YV-C-TAD.

    Seen at Doncaster in 1938 is aged Westland Widgeon IIIA G-AAGH, first registered in September 1930 and destined to remain with its parent company as a communications aircraft for 19yr. Fitted with a 105 h.p. Hermes I engine, this last survivor of the breed was destroyed and burnt after it crashed into a hangar at Merryfield, Somerset following a pilotless take-off.

    Dragon Rapide G-ACZU was another of Viscount Furness's aircraft and it is seen at Doncaster in September 1935, flown in by Tom Campbell Black, the black-and-silver Rapide was first registered in March 1935. It was sold later to Cinema Press Ltd and in July 1937 was sold abroad.

    The Hon C. J. Wynn’s Stinson SR-9 Reliant G-AEYZ, often kept at Doncaster and flown by Cecil Bebb on behalf of Olley Air Service Ltd. It was impressed as X8521 in February 1940, but its RAF career was short. On November 20 that year it suffered engine failure over the Orkneys and was damaged beyond repair after hitting a stone wall at Sunday, near Start Point. G-AEYZ was powered by a 320 h.p. Wright Whirlwind R-760-E1 radial engine.

    D.H.80A Puss Moth G-ABLB belonged to Rollasons of Croydon when this photograph was taken. Walking away from the aircraft is A.R.C. (Dutch) Holland - in the aircraft is Jack Willson of Rollasons. In April 1940 'LB was impressed as X9400 and became an instructional airframe; it was given the serial number 2036M.

    Originally produced in 1930, powered by a 50 h.p. Salmson A.D.9 radial engine and featuring sloping fin and rudder and narrow-chord wheels, Comper Swift G-AAZC was later modified to Pobjoy standard, with taller fin and rudder, doughnut-type tyres and 75 h.p. Pobjoy R engine. The Swift was acquired by L. H. Ridell of Doncaster in April 1933 and based at Doncaster in August 1935. It was withdrawn from use in April 1943.

    Prototype Desoutter II G-AAZI photographed at Doncaster on May 26, 1935. Owned by Warden Aviation, G-AAZI was impressed into the RAF as HM507 in November 1941 and flew for a while as a communications hack with Percival Aircraft. After service elsewhere it was dismantled in July 1944 and burnt at the end of 1945.

    One of the first Cirrus Minor-engined BA Swallows was G-AEKB, owned in 1936-37 by former RFC captain J. J. Lister of Doncaster. Following ownership by the Leicester and Hull Aero Clubs, 'KB was impressed in November 1942 and became 3568M.

    Another photograph of BA Swallow G-AEKB, this lime sporting a coupe top. Following impressment by the Ministry of Aircraft Production as 3568M, the Swallow ended its days with No 575 ATC Squadron at Cheadle Hulme School (Cheshire Wing).
