Following the merger of Pulkovo Air and Rossiya Airlines in November 2006, former Pulkovo Il-86 RA-86092 now carries the Rossiya name in Cyrillic just aft of the forward cabin door. It is pictured on approach to Dubai International Airport on a charter flight from St Petersburg on November 17, 2006.
This view of Ural Airlines Il-86 RA-86114, photographed in July 2006 on short finals to Koltsovo Airport, Ekaterinburg, in the Russian Federation, clearly shows the aircraft's full-span flaps and leading edge slats deployed. The carrier uses four Il-86s, including a Combi variant.
B-2016 was the first of three Il-86s to be exported to China. It is seen on final approach to Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport in the former blue-tailed livery of China Xinjiang Airlines.
One of the key design requirements of the Il-86 was that it could operate without having to depend on airport services for passengers' luggage, all of which could be carried aboard by hand. Other freight was containerised as seen here, about to be loaded aboard the forward hold.
Cockpit details of RA-86078, showing the controls and instruments typical of its generation of multi-engined aircraft.
Nine-abreast seating and a high cabin ceiling were hallmarks of the Il-86.
A display model showing an early project configuration of the Il-86 with rear engines in Il-62 style paired nacelles and a 'T-tail'. Note the baggage containers prepared for loading.
Initially based at the Flight Test Centre airfield at Zhukovsky, the four Il-80 Maxdomes built were relocated to Chkalovskaya airfield after being accepted by the Soviet Air Force. Very little is known about the operation of these unique aircraft, although they are believed to be still airworthy.
