From Peter Amos comes this photograph of Sabre 19587. It was previously with the Royal Air Force as XB701. Where was the picture taken. Possibly this is a job for one of our crane recognition experts.

RAF Museum photograph P323 shows a Hurricane and Beaufighter VI in unfortunate positions. Exactly how this came about is not entirely clear. The Hurricane is stated to be HL978 of No.225 Squadron.
This particular aircraft was reported as hav-stalled on approach on 16 December 1942 while in the hands of No.132 Maintenance Unit. But the details given on the photograph show that the site was Souk-el-Arba on the same date.
In the background is a Beaufighter VI of 255 Squadron carrying the individual code letter 'E' on the nose. Whether it was involved in the accident or whether both have been moved to the airfield dump seems in doubt. If the latter, what happened to the Beaufighter and what serial does it carry?

Not a lot can be said for this Liberator. Although painted with roundels, it carries the USAAF serial 428150 on the fin. '349' is painted roughly on the nose. Anything known?
The Liberator is B-24J 44-28150, built by North American, and is shown in RAAF markings. Its serial was A72-399 (the '349' on the nose is put down to rough painting!) and it was going to No.25 Squadron at Cunderdin, WA. This did not in fact come about and instead it went to No.7 OTU at Tocumwal, NSW. It appears to have been returned to the USAAF and flew back to the USA under the Sunset Project which repatriated US servicemen across the Pacific. Presumably it then ended its days in a desert boneyard.

A photograph from Jeff Jefford of Skyraider AEW.1 WT962 from HMS Albion. It belonged to 'C' Flight of No.849 Squadron but where was it photographed? One guess might be RNAS Sembawang in Singapore.
The Skyraider is at Kuala Lumpur, around 1956.

Short Sealand INS-110 Is photographed at Jersey Airport in November 1953 on its delivery flight to Cochin. Ten of the graceful amphibians were ordered by the Indian Navy, INS-101 to INS-110 and had extended wingtips, dual control, uprated Gipsy Queen engines at additional tanks for an endurance of around six hours. They were used for coastal patrol, search and rescue and communications for many years. Does anyone know their individual fates?

Following the Ford Trimotor query in recent issues, Andy Thomas submits this photograph of X5000, camouflaged and in a ditch at Ballyminerra, Co Down on September 19, 1940, as a result of an overshot landing in bad weather while serving with 271 Squadron. It was probably a write-off.
