No.XI Squadron was allocated "A" as the squadron code when it moved to Bruggen in October 1986 and this was a heaven-sent opportunity for the CO, Wing Commander Alfie Ferguson, to appropriate the individual aircraft "F" as his own, thus giving Tornado ZD892 his own initials. Although not strictly a "personal code" in the sense that it has been used in the past, it is an ingenious way of using the system but not one which is likely to be often repeated, given the circumstances.

We trust all this modernity will not be taken as indicating that we have caught up with the latter half of the twentieth century.
