Ron Backhouse has kindly sent in the photograph of a Dornier Wal in trouble alongside HMS Eagle. Eagle left Devonport on 29 May 1929 after refit and sailed for the Mediterranean on 21 June. On 25 June, the Admiralty signals log shows that Eagle was ordered, on 25 June, to carry out a search in the vicinity of the Azores for a missing Spanish flying boat. On the 28th, the Admiralty received a signal from Eagle saying that the Spanish 'Dornier 16' and crew had been picked up and Eagle would arrive at Gibraltar on 2 June.
