  • Регистрационный номер: N9633

The wartime seaplane carrier Pegasus was converted in 1917 from a mail steamer in common with a number of others. Unlike them, Pegasus stayed in service after the war and is seen here during a spell of surveying in the Far East. Fairey IIID N9633 is on deck in 1924 and we believe the photograph was taken off the Burmese coast.

First flown on 1 September 1934, the Loire 46 was ordered in May 1935, sixty to be built by Nieuport at Issy-les-Moulineaux as Loire's St.Nazaire factory was full of Dewoitine D 501 production. They entered service in August 1936 armed with four machine guns and replaced Nieuport-Delage NiD 629s in the 6th Escadre de Chasse between September 1936 and July 1937. The underwing serials were N088-118 and N150-178. No.20 was N107.

  • Регистрационный номер: N136

N136 was a Parnall Puffin which first flew on 19 November 1920. Designed as a fighter-reconnaissance amphibian, the odd fin and rudder position was to give the rear gunner a clear field of fire aft, in common with the Fairey Pintail to the same specification. This was not a new idea as it had been used on German Hansa-Brandenburg seaplanes during the Great War.

It could carry a 500-lb bomb under the fuselage and was mainly used for dive-bombing, gaining the popular name of 'Helldiver'. 63 more were built as OS2C-1s for the US Marines.

A folding-wing single-seat scout, the Wight design was in the same class as the Sopwith Baby. 9098 was the second of three prototypes, 9097, 9098 and 9100. It was not accepted for production. Wight aircraft were built by Samuel White's shipyard and in the background is the destroyer Medina being completed.

  • The Sopwith L.R.T.Tr. was not only one of the oddest aircraft ever built by Sopwith but had a matching designation. With no interruptor gear yet available, a gunner was housed in a nacelle on the top wing. A second gunner's cockpit was behind the pilot. Powered by a 250 hp RR Mk I engine, the type was intended as a long-range escort fighter.

  • Регистрационный номер: KZ232

An unusual variant of the Hurricane was this Mk.IIC fitted with a second cockpit. Persia had ordered Hurricanes in 1939 but only one was delivered. The contract was finally filled in 1946 when sixteen Hurricane IICs were delivered as unarmed trainers. One had the two-seat layout illustrated. KZ232 was first flown as 2-31 on 27 September 1946. Both cockpits were open but hoods were fitted for trials in both positions. It was finally delivered with, it is believed, an open front cockpit.
