Регистрационный номер: AJ152 Michael Payne has sent in the photo of Wildcat II AJ152. It was taken at Exeter in September 1946 in the area occupied during the war by the Gunnery Research Unit and later by No. 691 Squadron's target tugs and gliders.
The Wildcat was dismantled, no rudder or elevators, wings detached and tyres flat. It carried no codes. However, between the wheels was a fixed skid and below each wingtip was mounted a tailwheel unit, possibly from Hurricanes. These had no anti-shimmy double tread.
AJ152 was last recorded as being at Abbotsinch in 1944. Can anyone suggest what happened after that? We doubt whether the skid was for the same purpose as in the old Avros but the arrangement seems to have the purpose of keeping the aircraft in a level position.Самолёты на фотографии: Grumman F4F Wildcat - США - 1937
