An unidentified Dakota believed to have been photographed in Japan during the early stages of the Allied occupation. It carries the code 'MH' on the side of the nose and the letter 'H' on the nosecone. Where the serial is normally placed, it merely has 'SNAKE', the usual indication on RAF aircraft that it is destined for the Far East. But that was carried beside the serial, not on top of it! Ideas please?

Регистрационный номер: KP230 Another Dakota from Dave Vincent, this time KP230. This was allotted to No.1315 Flight, apparently for the use of General Gardiner. This was probably the occasion when it was written off after overshooting landing at Koepang, Timor, on 18 January 1947.

A PBY-5A of VP-54 comes alongside a seaplane tender in November 1944. One crew member is on the wing, presumably about to affix the hoisting strop to the crane. The undercarriage is down to allow parking on the tender's deck. Alternatively, perhaps it has just been hoisted out since the gun covers are in place on the nose position. Note the large ASV bulge over the cockpit.

Following on from French floatplanes in the past two issues, Chris Goss has sent in this one of a French Navy aircraft shot down near Laon, many miles from the sea. It is a Latecoere 298 from Esc T1, T2 or T3, all of which were based at Cherbourg and Boulogne and carried out mainly night attacks against German communications targets during the Battle of France.

Регистрационный номер: Z7189 Not a good place for a forced landing, as this pilot of the Communications Flight at Lydda found when he failed to gain height after taking off from an airstrip in Transjordan on 15 April 1941. The aircraft is Short Scion Z7189 and, not surprisingly, it was written off as being beyond repair.
