The photo shows Lancelot Gibbs at the controls of a Farman during the Midlands Aviation Week meeting at Dunstall Park, Wolverhampton, in the summer of 1910.

Compton Paterson in the Baby Grahame-White which he was to fly in the 1911 Circuit of Britain race. Claude Grahame-White's biography records that Paterson scratched after the first day, being un-nerved by the high performance of the Baby. The same source however says that in February 1911 the pioneer was "giving exhibitions at the Southport flying school of Compton Paterson, a Liverpool entrepreneur of aviation". Since this school did not appear in the list we would be grateful for any further information which may determine whether it was a genuine training school. Perhaps it was connected with the Melly school at nearby Freshfield?
