  • Регистрационный номер: DG202

DG202/G at Moreton Valence. Note the very narrow jet pipe, characteristic of the Welland-powered F.9/40s and Meteor F. 1. The nacelle design actually restricted the top speed attainable, and resulted in redesign for later aircraft. Although this prototype carried ballast in place of armament, fairings for the cannon are in evidence. Also note the 'fluted' fairing behind the cockpit canopy, which was soon abandoned for aerodynamic and pilot-visibility reasons.

  • Регистрационный номер: DG204

Испытания двигателей Metro-Vick F.2 с осевым компрессором проводились на прототипе Meteor, DG204/G, с ноября 1943 года по апрель 1944 года, причем мотогондолы монтировались под крылом.
Gloster F.9/40 DG204, powered by underslung Metropolitan Vickers F.2 axial-flow turbojets, seen at Bentham in 1943.
This shot of DG204/G was taken at Bentham before its dispatch to Barford St. John. Note that the F.2 engines are slung under the wing, requiring a longer undercarriage.

  • Регистрационный номер: DG206

DG206/G probably at Moreton Valence. This prototype has the Halford H.1 (Goblin) engines in fatter nacelles, with a small air intake on the cowling above the wing.

  • Регистрационный номер: DG208

DG208/G at Moreton Valence. Still with the slim jet pipe for its Welland engines, DG208 shows one of several revised fin configurations, complete with 'bullet' at the fin/tailplane intersection, and fairing for an anti-spin parachute. Note that this prototype has provision for the cannon armament, having been allotted for armament trials at one point (although these were in practice conducted by a Meteor F.1)

  • Регистрационный номер: EE211

EE211/G at Moreton Valence. This shot shows the aircraft towards the end of its development, by which time the engine nacelles had become the definitive type later used on the Meteor IV

  • Регистрационный номер: EE227

EE227/G at Rolls-Royce, possibly at Hucknall, after fitment of the RB.50 Trent turbo-props. The RB.50 was essentially an RB.37 Derwent fitted with a reduction gearbox to take a propeller
The Trent-Meteor was an early Mark I airframe converted to have the new engine installation. The early sideways opening cockpit canopy is shown.
