Fighter A to Z
Истребитель И-220 (А) N 02 с мотором АМ-39
The I-220(A) was the first in a series of dedicated high-altitude interceptors which was to culminate in the I-225.
The I-222(3A) was the first Soviet fighter to utilise both turbo-superchargers and a pressure cabin.
The I-225(5A) was the last of the MiG fighters powered solely by a piston engine and was claimed to have reached the highest speed ever attained by a Soviet piston-engined warplane.
The I-250(N) was unorthodox in combining a piston engine with a so-called "accelerator", or VRDK.
