Smaller sibling of the civil Il-114 with same powerplant (installation of even more powerful TV7-117SB-2 series is also considered). As a result, Il-112 performance shall be better than one of the Il-114. In service it is intended to replace aging park
of An-26 planes, beating the veteran 2.4 to 1 in the fuel efficiency.

Il-112 differs from aircraft of its class by increased height and width of the cargo cabin. Originally it was a civil transport.

According to market studies, some 300 aircraft may be purchased by military forces of CIS and 1000 - by civil sector.

Story of the Il-112 started in 1993. In November State support was granted to the program, but collapse of the economy made traditional financing impossible. Special AO Il-Bashkiria was established to finance project by selling Bashkortostan oil. Sale of
1.6 million tons of crude did not solve all financial problems in 1995... Also faded in the past plans to build Il-112 at Kumertau APO after re-assigning some of its facilities from manufacturing of Kamov helicopters.
Project won the contest for light military transport in July 1999. Il-112V is included into perspective program of Russian aviation until 2015.

In the beginning of 2000 Voronezh Aircraft Building Plant joined Ilyushin AK as a perspective manufacturer of the Il-112V (Voennyj or Voronezh?). Contract with Defence Ministry (20% of financing) was not signed in the middle of 2000, despite was expected
year ago.

According to the Director General of the Ilyushin AK V.Livanov, production blueprints are to be completed at the end of 2001. Some packages are already at the Voronezh Plant, were undergo final technological studies. Assembly of the production lines is
still on hold, because military delay signing of the contract.

First flight (originally planned for 2002) also will be delayed.

According to different sources, Il-112 mockup was already presented to defence ministry and some potential commercial byers.

Ilyushin AK plans to replace ASW veteran Il-38 by new aircraft based on Il-112 and Il-114.
